Sorry for the delay in any new posts (for those who actually read); I’m in Las Vegas right now and I’m just enjoing some time off from school. Other than playing Spore like it’s my job (seriously, one of the coolest games I’ve ever played), nothing too magical or new has been happening in my life. However, I just got finished seeing Tropic Thunder and felt that I needed to share my opinions on it.
Now recently, I haven’t been able to stand many of the comedies that I’ve seen in the theatres. Knocked Up: good, but definitely overrated. Superbad: way overhyped, stupid, and not very funny (I could keep going, but people just get pissed and confused about the way I feel about the comedies that are being pumped out these days). However, Tropic Thunder just was plain and funny. Being that this was Ben Stiller’s first directed movie (I was shocked to find this out), I have to admit, I was extremely impressed.
First of all, the cast was extremely balanced as well as the range in characters that were used. Just watching the introductory movie trailers that highlighted the actors (you know what I’m talking about if you’ve seen the movie: I’m dying to get me a bottle of Booty Sweat!) really set a great tone for the rest of the movie. Second of all, it was great that everything went over the top. From Ben Stiller licking the “prop” head to Tom Cruise screaming at everyone and demanding Diet Cokes to Jack Black describing what he was willing to do to get freed from being roped to a tree, the jokes went far which in turn made me laugh my ass off (I wish I could tag the videos, but they’ve been removed from YouTube due to copyrights). Lastly, the movie was great since I felt that the jokes were non-stop and were not completely random in delivery/context. I’ve been frustrated with recent comedies with their bad attemtpts at inserting jokes when they really have no relevance with the plot or what’s going on in the movie.
Sorry if this post isn’t as “fun” as the usual post (not that I can really claim to have a “usual” post), I just felt like I’d type something up to keep any of you readers happy before I can type a longer article. Until then, here’s a great video that should keep you going for a little longer.
